HAIRSTORY, currently in post-production, explores the deep and complex relationship people have with their hair and how it shapes identity, culture, self-expression, and transformation. Drawing from over a decade of experience as a hair artist, Lukas Press reveals how hair influences both how we see ourselves and how the world sees us. Featuring diverse voices, the film uncovers the emotional and cultural weight carried in something so personal: hair. At its heart, HAIRSTORY is about identity, belonging, and the powerful stories woven into every strand.

 

Lukas Press is an accomplished director and filmmaker, known for his evocative storytelling and creative vision. His debut short film, "I Love You More" (2023), delves into the intricate dynamics between a mother and her daughter, exploring themes of traditions, culture, and the complexities of family.

In addition to his directorial work, Lukas has also ventured into producing and hosting his very own series "Creative KoLAB with Lukas Press" (2023), where he brings unique and captivating stories to life. Notably, the episode "Education in the Art of Hair" offers an intimate exploration into the diverse world of hairstyling, winner of the Muse Award 2024- Interview/Talk Show & winner of the TELLY Award 2024 General-Talkshow & Interview for Social Video

Lukas started out in dance and theatre, and then moved on and founded KOKUS Productions (2009-2015), a dance and theatre production company. Noteworthy accolades for KOKUS Productions include an Award-Winning Production at the Broadway World Awards Toronto 2013 and Best Community Theatre Production for "NUMBERS". The show is a captivating performance that explores love, fear, and hope through the lens of a child’s perspective, spanning from 1930s Poland to the end of WWII. This production blends contemporary dance pieces, original songs, and diverse artistic expressions. Through his diverse body of work, Lukas continues to push boundaries and inspire audiences with his thought- provoking narratives and innovative approach to storytelling.

He is particularly drawn to stories that challenge conventional narratives and offer fresh perspectives on societal biases, gender exploration, cultural traditions, and the complexities of shared humanity. His creative process is highly collaborative, as the best stories are born from a collective exchange of ideas and experiences. Artfully narrated stories through film spark meaningful conversations and encourage audiences to see the world through a different lens. This is why making documentary films has become a medium for Lukas to convey universal themes in a way that is both thought-provoking and deeply personal.
